Crafts and Clay!

Origami, Model Making, Painting, Clay Modeling…… Sounds like Child’s Play? Well, to most of us it brings us memories of our long gone childhood. But, for Sohini Sinha it is a cause that is giving her “The Joy of Realising Dreams” as well as giving a chance for those children who are yet to realise the Joy of Childhood.

Sohini is an active volunteer and a Mentor at Dream A Dream. She and Anju Lavina used their craft skills to create products to showcase their skills. Sohini will be selling these products at office. Sohini and Anju together hope to realize their dream and the dreams of many children from vulnerable backgrounds.

Jo Chadwick from Australia participated in the ‘Joy of Realizing Dreams’ campaign a couple of weekends ago. She used to play in a band but hadn’t had a jam session for a while. When she heard about the ‘Joy of Realizing Dreams’ campaign she jumped at this opportunity to have a music jam and raise funds for children of Dream A Dream.  She got together 4 people for the band and put up a show for her friends. Jo raised money for Dream A Dream through this jam session.

By Vishal Talreja, Director, Dream a Dream

When I was a kid, I remember reading about the explorer David Livingstone and day dreaming about one day becoming an explorer like him and discover a new world. I had cooked up stories of perilous expeditions and achievement. For days, I lived like David Livingstone in my heart. I wonder what happened to the dream of being an explorer in me.

As a ten-year old, I was fascinated by the characters in Asterix comics and would read each book many times over borrowed from my neighbourhood library. The characters of Asterix, Obelix, Cacofonix, Vitalstatistix and Getafix kept me entertained for days on end. I started making pencil sketches of these characters and soon I had an entire drawing book full of Asterix characters. My treasured gift to me. I loved making pencil sketches of cartoon characters and the joy I experienced everytime I made a drawing is inexplicable. It’s probably been 3-4 years since I last made a pencil drawing.

In the rigmarole of daily living, do we ever stop to realize our dreams? Do we ever stop to wonder ‘What makes us Happy’? Or is it a question we have forgotten to ask ourselves?

I have decided to go back to my passion for pencil drawing and I will be making 15 drawings from the Asterix comic series. I plan to sell them to my friends and raise money for Dream A Dream.

So what dream would you like to realize?

Mitesh Gandhi,  a long time volunteer for Dream A Dream is also one of the first few to sign up for the Joy of Realizing Dreams. Mitesh wishes to take up his photography a little more seriously here on and to try to learn more on still photography and attend more workshops. He’s always wanted to explore photography and  hold an exhibition of his photographs. This time, its to raise funds for Dream A Dream.
